Trump Hailed by Zelensky for Gaza Deal, Asked to Replicate Peace in Ukraine

by admin477351

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky extended high praise to US President Donald Trump on Saturday, congratulating him on securing a phase-one peace deal in Gaza, which he called an “outstanding achievement.” Zelensky used the celebratory phone call as a strategic opening to advocate for a similar focus on his own nation, asserting that the success in the Middle East should be replicated to end the “Russian war.”

Zelensky shared details of the conversation in a post on X, describing the dialogue as “very positive and productive.” His central argument was a diplomatic parallel: “If a war can be stopped in one region, then surely other wars can be stopped as well—including the Russian war.” This firmly positioned the Ukraine conflict as the next great challenge for Trump’s deal-making prowess.

The Ukrainian leader also provided a crucial battlefield update, informing Trump about Russia’s systematic attacks on Kyiv’s energy system. This detail highlighted the immense pressure on the nation and reinforced the urgency of his request for support. He expressed deep appreciation for the Republican leader’s “willingness to support us”.

The conversation then transitioned to concrete security needs. The two leaders discussed “opportunities to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense,” with Zelensky hinting at “concrete agreements” being actively developed to enhance this critical capability. This focus on defense shows a pragmatic alignment between the two administrations.

Ultimately, Zelensky framed the path to peace as achievable only through strength. He stated that Russia’s “readiness… to engage in real diplomacy” must be forced, concluding, “this can be achieved through strength.” The call was a strategic effort to harness a moment of global peace and leverage it for Ukraine’s own struggle for survival.
