Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has achieved a significant milestone as her administration becomes the longest continuously serving government in the history of the Italian Republic. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan extended his congratulations to Meloni, highlighting the longevity of her leadership and expressing optimism for the continued strengthening of ties between Türkiye and Italy.
Meloni’s government has surpassed the previous record of 1,412 consecutive days in office, a benchmark set by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s second administration from 2001 to 2005. Reaching 1,413 days, Meloni has not only made history but also reinforced her position as Italy’s first female prime minister, a role she assumed in October 2022.
Since taking office, Meloni has cultivated a robust relationship with Erdoğan, characterized by frequent discussions on both bilateral and regional matters. The collaboration between Türkiye and Italy has seen advancements in various sectors, including trade, investment, defense, energy, and migration. Additionally, the two nations have coordinated efforts on pressing regional issues, notably concerning Libya and Ukraine.
In April 2025, Meloni and Erdoğan jointly led the fourth Türkiye-Italy Intergovernmental Summit in Rome, resulting in several agreements aimed at bolstering their strategic and economic partnership. Their cooperation was further reinforced during their most recent meeting at the NATO summit in Ankara in July, where they reaffirmed commitments to enhance trade, mutual investment, and defense cooperation.
