The legislative proposal seeks to streamline occupational health requirements, allowing medical examinations for seasonal workers to take place in their home countries, with the subsequent validation of certificates in Luxembourg. The parliamentary committee is slated to review these reforms in September, with a vote expected to follow in October or November.
Despite the anticipated changes, current regulations will still apply to the grape harvest this year. Employers involved in this sector will need to comply with existing labour and safety standards until the new legislation is enacted. In addition to the seasonal worker reforms, Spautz has unveiled plans for more stringent regulations on platform work. The Luxembourg authorities are currently investigating the operational frameworks surrounding delivery couriers. This examination includes concerns over potential bogus self-employment, as well as issues related to the lack of appropriate employment contracts and social-security coverage for these workers.
